What Is An Angel?

(This is an excerpt from a University Of Metaphysical Sciences course at www.umsonline.org,

)

What is an Angel. In the book, Ask Your Angels (1992) by Alma Daniel, The word “angel” comes from the Greek word “angelos,” which means, “Messenger.” Angels are an order of created spirit beings who belong to God and who are engaged in His service. They are holy and elect. They perform specific divine tasks, they are ministering spirits ("minister" means "to serve") that bring messages of hope and joy. They do not have bodies but may appear in human form.

Angels are intelligent beings, capable of feelings, yet a different species than humans. Their existence is in a slightly finer vibrational frequency than that which our physical senses are tuned to. This means we can’t perceive them ordinarily with our eyes or ears, but they can perceive us. Our realities interpenetrate one another with their reality encompassing and enfolding ours.

The word Angel is generic name for the collectives group of beings, citizens of inner space whose responsibilities include the harmonious organization of the inhabited universe. Some people believe angels are the thoughts of God, while others hold that they are the creation of the divine Mother Spirit.

Angels are messengers of our creator. Within them they contain the basic patterns of creation that become manifested as a three-dimensional world. They are literally messengers who are themselves the message. Angels work with our souls in conjunction with the universal mind, to help us raise our sights and spirits by reminding us of the truth, purity, and goodness that exist within everything.

All three major religions of the world, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam and virtually all the world’s other systems of religion, include celestial cosmologies. Their scriptures all contain references to angelic interventions.

(Hebrews 13:2), “Be careful when entertaining strangers, for by so doing, many have entertained angels unawares.” You may have interacted with angels who look like humans without being aware they are heavenly beings. Thus, anyone who acts angelically is an angel. The Talmud says that every blade of grass has an angel bending over it saying, “grow, grow.” Every flower, tree, raindrop and living thing has an angel overseeing its life cycle. According to Sophy Burnham in her book, A Book of Angels (1990), George Washington is said to have seen an angel at Valley Forge. He fell out of a boat and could not swim. As he was sinking he felt hands push him up to the surface which saved his life.

A group of six Russian Cosmonauts-atheists sighted twice a band of angels up in space. They were performing medical experiments when suddenly they were blinded by a brilliant orange glow. They saw seven giant figures in the form of humans, but with wings and mist-like halos. They appeared to be hundreds of feet tall with a wingspan as great as a jetliner. Their faces were round, with cherubic smiles and they were all identical. The band of angels followed the space capsule for about ten minutes and then vanished. Twelve days later all seven angels returned and this time three more scientists saw them as well. They were smiling as though they shared a glorious secret.
