Develop Your Psychic Skills (1981) by Enid Hoffman covers many types of psychic skills, and only one of them in this book pertains to astral projection and out of body experiences. This book is not dedicated to the skill of Astral projection per se, but it does have some interesting things to say about this siddhi. There are also a few accounts of astral journeys in this book, but not as many as some of the others I will suggest in a moment. Many first-timers have found themselves floating on the ceiling looking down at their physical form on the bed. However, after the initial shock, OBEs will become a welcome adventure. Enid Hoffman says in her book Develop Your Psychic Skills (1981), “This kind of spontaneous experience can be scary because you feel a lack of control. Once this has happened to you and you find that nothing bad occurs, you lose your fear and the next OBE becomes fun...”

Are You Psychic? (1997) by Dr. Hans Holzer is another book that covers several types of psychic abilities and does not focus solely on astral projection. However, it has some pointers and stories that are helpful to the curious spiritual seeker. It also offers up a brief account of some scientific experiments and studies that prove the existence of the ability to have an astral projection.

In Out Of Body Experiences In Thirty Days a thirty day program is given to help induce astral projection. Ideas are also given for things you could explore in your astral projection such as traveling to foreign lands, journeying into the future or past, or exploring sexuality. The authors claim that leaving your body in an astral projection can actually help strengthen your relationship with your body.

Out Of Body Experiences: A Handbook by Janet Mitchell explores the ability of consciousness to detach itself from the body and travel for an extended period of time. She describes what she believes to be the safest methods to achieve this, and also answers questions to concerns people often have with astral projection, such as, “Is it possible to go out and not be able to return.” Janet also gives an astonishing history of peoples first hand accounts of experiencing astral projection.

Astral Projection: A Record Of Out of Body Experiences is a guide book for experiencing astral projection. It gives an interesting technique based on the experiences of the author, Oliver Fox.

In Astral Voyages author Bruce Goldberg describes how to free yourself from the laws of space and time and travel to different realms such as astral, causal, mental, ethereal, and the soul plane. The author had more than 25 years of experience with himself and others in astral projection before he wrote this book. It is a very detailed book with more than 65 exercises.

Leaving The Body: A Complete Guide to Astral Projection presents eight different methods for inducing astral projection. The author also goes into great detail about the benefits and drawbacks of each method. The last chapter of the book explores what the benefits of astral projection could be.

The Astral Body by author A.E. Powell is a compilation of information which explains in detail the functions, composition, and many other elements of the astral body. His work is based on the experiences of famous clairvoyants such as H.P Blavatsky, C.W. Leadbeater, and Annie Besant.

In Out Of The Body Experiences a geologist named Robert Crookall explains his research on hundreds of individuals who have reported out of body experiences. This book is a scholarly investigation that sheds light into the similar patterns that occur for people who astral project. For the skeptical type this book might be appealing because it is grounded in objective observation rather than only personal experience.

Journeys Out Of The Body by Robert Monroe reveals the life altering change that came to the author when he suddenly began to astral project. He describes many of his journeys. Some stories are quite shocking, yet no doubt fascinating.

Far Journeys also by Robert Monroe expands on his previous book Journeys Out Of The Body. It gives his latest insights into astral travel based on his experiences and more than a decade of psychic research. The appendix has interesting information on commonly asked questions about out of body experiences.

Reflections On Life After Life shares research from the author about near death experiences. The book is based on hundreds of reports and gives fascinating accounts about the near death experience and actual death state. This book gives us a glimpse into an unknown world in hopes that we may better find our way in life and death.

Astral Projection: The Out Of Body Experience is a practical guide to exploring this perhaps untouched realm of experience. It combines the wisdom of traditional and occult teachings on this subject. It also gives many exercises. The authors believe that even though astral projection may seem profound and mystical that it is also a very natural ability of consciousness.

In The Nature of Personal Reality, Jane Roberts channels a being named Seth who shares through her very interesting information about many topics including astral travel. This book is unique from the others in that the material is presented from someone who exists on a different level than humans. Seth speaks with the authoritative voice of someone who believes they clearly know the nature of reality. If you haven’t ever read a channeled book and are curious this may be a good first one.

Seth Speaks is another channeled book by Seth through the channel Jane Roberts. The book offers a variety of insights into reincarnation, after death states, and the nature of the soul. Whether you believe in channeling or not the information in this book is certainly worth investigation.

Adventures In Consciousness, another Seth book, explains the many levels of human awareness and speaks of the ability to travel between them. Reading this book gives you interesting ideas to contemplate and for doing self psychotherapy. The insights offered by Seth also give greater understanding into how astral projection could be possible.

The final book used for this course was Psychic Politics by Jane Roberts. This book shares the actual thoughts of Jane Roberts about Seth’s teachings and her own experiences. It is very interesting to hear about her process of channeling Seth and the modifications that happen in her awareness when this happens.
