Intention:

We have touched already on the topic about the intention to have an astral projection, a willful effort on your part through meditation, stillness and focus to allow your consciousness to operate outside your human body. We will discuss techniques for this shortly. However, it is a skill that can be learned and it is possible for anyone who decides that he or she wants to learn how to have regular astral projections.

Physical Trauma:

Most people who have had an astral projection without prior knowledge of what they are or training in the art of inducing them have a projection during a moment when a car accident has just happened, or a near death happened. It is not unusual for those who experience a close call to have an astral projection. Suddenly he or she finds himself or herself floating above the scene, feeling somewhat disoriented about the situation. This also applies to people who go under anesthesia in surgery and find themselves floating over their body in the operating room.

Spontaneous:

Spontaneous astral projections are not unusual, and for those who have not had a physical trauma, this is likely to be their first experience. It happens when a person is just drifting off to sleep or upon awakening, or it can happen while a person is taking a nap in the afternoon. It is not unusual to have these spontaneous projections during a dream as well.

Mind Altering Substances:

There are cultures that use hallucinogens and psychotropic drugs (power plants, as they are called by indigenous cultures) to induce astral projections. It was not an exact science, and an astral projection could not always be expected. This is not recommended by UMS, of course, for these traditions were overseen by medicine men, shamans, and other types of spiritual leaders in various cultures who were trained to assist the spiritual journey with wisdom and proficiency. If you are not privy to this sort of teacher and facilitator, then you should refrain from using this method of inducing astral projections. However, this course would not be complete unless you are informed of these methods.

Physical Exertion:

Sundancing, as per the Native American traditions, was often a method of inducing an astral projection, although Sundances are used for many purposes. The participants pierce the body with fasteners that are latched to a post with a rope or chain and he or she dances around the post until collapsing with exhaustion. At that point an astral projection might be had when he or she lies down to finally rest. Marathon runners have reported astral projections as well. I have personally had an astral projection with an extreme physical temperature change: I came out of a long session in a sweat lodge, having reached my limit. I directly laid down in a cold running creek nearby, and immediately experienced an astral projection, the extreme temperature change being the inducing mechanism.

Other Methods:

There are other methods for astral projections, but they are more unusual and unique experiences of an individual nature that have been reported, but not necessarily duplicated by others. Whatever method works for you is the right one for you. Watch for moments that might be possible avenues for you, perhaps you have a unique method of your own.
