Description: Azurite is a blue, copper-based stone. Its color ranges from light to deep blue and sometimes has a vitreous luster.
Location: It is found in abundance in Arizona, although there is evidence of its use as far from the U.S. as ancient Egypt.
Spiritual Uses: Azurite is referred to as the jewel of wisdom, esoteric literature referring to its ability to restructure gray matter and aid in developing embryonic babies in the womb. It is also known as a “stone of heaven” that provides for guidance through the third-eye, awakening the development of the psychic self. Azurite can help one balance past and future, by helping to release the past and gracefully anticipate and accept the future. It has long been utilized in magic to increase psychic powers. Placing the stone beneath one’s pillow is supposed to help in prophetic dreaming. When divining the future, Azurite is a good stone to hold or wear. In meditation, it provides for relaxation and easy entry to the void state of “no-mind,” allowing one to travel deep within the inner being and maintain depth while integrating the myriad of images encountered.
Physical Uses: Azurite aligns the chakras and attunes the structure of the physical body to the ethereal nervous system. It provides an unimpaired flow of energy and works well to dissolve energy blockages. Azurite can be used as a pendulum, its energy permeating the energy of the user and pointing to the problem(s) involved and/or the answers required. It has been used with success for treating disorders of spinal alignment. Also, it can be used in the treatment of circulatory disorders, to clear toxins from the body, to disseminate and disperse growths, and to stimulate the functioning of the synapses. The energy of Azurite is conducive to enhancing the flow of motion, so it can be used for any instance of stagnation in the body. It benefits the spleen, thyroid, bones, and skin. Azurite is an integral part of many crystal and gemstone layouts (patterns of crystals placed on the body by crystal healers).
History: Priests and priestesses of ancient Egypt used Azurite to enhance their spiritual consciousness. Edgar Cayce, “the sleeping prophet,” told of the stone’s ability to help him gain more mental control and attain a meditative state more easily. The ancient Mayans used the stone to stimulate and inspire the actualization of the mystical and psychic self, as well as using it to facilitate the transfer of information and wisdom through thought. In Native American Indian history, azurite has been used as a sacred stone, and in many other ancient civilizations, it has been a symbol of status.
Different Types: Azurite is usually found in association with Malachite, which is its cousin.
