Description: Bloodstone is a variety of quartz occurring in massive formations. It is a green chalcedony flecked with red spots resembling drops of blood, where it gets its name. Its green color makes it a good stone to use in wealth, money, and business matters.

Physical Uses: The most well-known use of this stone is to halt bleeding, having been frequently carried by soldiers in battle. When pressed on wounds, the stone caused the bleeding to stop, although this might have been just because of the pressure when applied. It has been used to treat conditions of the spleen, to purify the blood, kidneys, bladder, intestines, and liver. It has also been used in the treatment of leukemia, as well as for failing eyesight, lung congestion, and rashes. History: Bloodstone was used by the ancient Egyptians to lessen the wrath of kings and despots and to counteract tumors and growths. In the Middle Ages, it was used as a farmer’s talisman, which was worn during planting to increase the crop’s yield. To prevent miscarriage, and to ease childbirth, the stone was favored by women, who would hang it on their arms. Bloodstones engraved with the figure of a bat were used in the thirteenth century and worn by magicians to increase the effectiveness of magical spells and rites.
