Geode
Description: Geode is recognized, usually, by a spherical configuration which contains a cavity lined with a crystalline structure growing toward the center. Configured in the form of a closed shell, usually containing quartz, amethyst, citrine, or calcite, it is partially filled with crystals projecting into the hollow interior. A film of clay separates the Geode from the usual limestone or “mud” matrix. All quartz crystals, in fact, form within geodes, which may be a quarter-mile long or small enough to fit in your palm. Some Geodes don’t contain separate crystals but, when sliced, reveal intricate patterns. Amethyst Geodes are some of the most beautiful objects on Earth and when sliced or broken open, they reveal a mass of purple crystals all growing towards the center.
