Ruby
Description: Ruby is a type of corundum which crystallizes in the form of tabular and rhombodhedral prismatic crystals. This classic stone is usually a deep, brilliant red but can be found in shades of pink or lavender. Ruby can sometimes display asterism (a starlike luminosity in transmitted light) and also exhibit dichroism, (displaying crimson red and orange-red in the same stone.)
Location: Rubies are found in the United States, India, and Sri Lanka.
Astrological Sign: Sagittarius, Leo, Capricorn, Scorpio, and Cancer
Spiritual Uses: Ruby is known as a “stone of nobility,” gathering and amplifying energy while promoting and stimulating mental concentration. It stimulates the heart chakra and can assist one in the selection and attainment of one’s ultimate values. Ruby further stimulates the loving emotional side toward nurturing, bringing spiritual wisdom, health, knowledge, and wealth. It can improve one’s success in controversies and disputes, encouraging gentleness and discouraging violence. Rubies help us in all matters of love, including love of ourselves. It is an excellent shielding stone, protecting on all levels and safeguarding one’s consciousness from psychic attack. Ruby can protect one’s home and the energy inside the home from “storms” and negativity and is especially effective if it is first touched to the four outside corners of the house. It can also be used to touch trees or the boundaries of a garden, magically protecting them from lightning and the effects of violent storms. Like Diamond, Ruby is an amplifier of energy-both positive and negative. It is a powerful stone whose stimulating energy can bring startling things to light. The color of Ruby, red, is commonly thought to be a color of passion, and so the Ruby has a passionate, intense energy about it. It should be used with knowledge of how to gain from the experience, for it can bring anger or negativity to the surface quickly. One can be overcome by the passion it stirs up if not ready to deal with it. Ruby brings negativity to the surface to be burned away or dispelled. Allow yourself to be purified by the experience, not overwhelmed. Ruby can also amplify positive energy, heightening whatever purity you already possess. This positive energy can form a storehouse of energy that one can draw upon when dealing with the negative issues Ruby can stir up. The Ruby is an energizing stone that stimulates motivation and visualization. They can help the user be more realistic about goals and more honest with intentions. Jewelry set with Rubies is worn to banish sadness and negative thought patterns. Such jewelry also produces joy, strengthens will power and confidence, and dispels fear.
Physical Uses: Ruby benefits the heart and circulatory system, and can assist in detoxification and filtration of the body. Ruby is also recommended for the eyes in some gem literature. Placed beneath the pillow or worn to bed, Ruby ensures restful sleep, undisturbed by nightmares. Ruby has been used to induce stability in one’s economic status, and it has been said that as long as one retains a bit of Ruby, wealth will never depart. It is also said to have been used to protect the wearer/carrier against unhappiness, distressing dreams, and lightning. It has been used in the treatment of fever, and heart disorders relating to blood flow through the ventricles. It can be used also to decrease the length of time required for chemicals and toxins to exit the body. It can ameliorate the intake of caffeine, acting as a counter-balance to stimulants and can also help in the optimum formation of children in the embryonic state.
History: In thirteenth century magic, Rubies were well established as wealth-increasing stones. They were especially effective if engraved with the image of a dragon or snake before using. In India, ancient magicians thought that the possession of Rubies helps their owner to accumulate other precious gems, perhaps because of the stone’s wealth-inducing qualities. The Ruby, if worn, was thought to convey invulnerability, or protection against all foes, wicked spirits, negativity, plague, fascination (magical manipulation), and famine. Rubies were valued above all other stones by Hindus because they preserved the bodily and mental health of the wearer by removing evil thoughts, controlling excessive desires, dissipating pestilential vapors, and reconciling disputes. In Burma (Myanmar), Rubies were valued for invulnerability. In order to attain this end, however, a Ruby had to be inserted into the flesh so that it could become part of the body. Those who embedded Rubies in their skin believed they could become invincible to any wounds caused by spears, swords, or guns. Ruby has long been a special mascot of soldiers, guarding against wounds in battle. The Ruby strengthens the body’s own psychic defense system when worn.
Different Types: Star Rubies, which are rare stones with a naturally occurring six-pointed star, are thought to be particularly potent when used in protective magic (and other forms of magic.) This is because a spirit is thought to dwell within the stone. Star Rubies can be used also as divinatory tools by gazing at the crossed lines of light. The Star Rubies are also known as Ruby Crystals. They come from India and Madagascar and are superior crystals, exhibiting additional properties that include further access to the spiritual realms. With the Ruby Crystal, one may access ancient writings covering the esoteric principles of the religious movements, the structure and attributes of occult knowledge, and information from the akashic records relative to the development of the intuitive, psychic, and astral abilities. These crystals are now being used to assist in the intense focusing necessary for healing the Earth, for banishing and discouraging the destructive forces, and for the purification of the ethers. These crystals are said to have been used in Lemurian ceremonial activities and to maintain the psychic energies of that time period. They have also been used to facilitate access to the teachings of the ancient teachers of India.
The Ruby Crystals promote dreaming and stimulate the connection with, and transmission of information of, one’s spiritual guides. Some of the Ruby Crystals are recognized as record-keepers, containing knowledge from the ancient realms of civilization and awaiting the opportunity to share the knowledge. Quite successful astral travels have occurred with the use of these crystals. The Ruby Crystal/Star Ruby has a unique power in its ability to purify and correct disoriented, trapped energy that leads to atrophy. It helps in the resolution of opposites, promoting the refinement of the will as a love-based force. It is and excellent stone for re-birthing and for releasing blockages which restrain one from one’s spiritual path. The crystal acts also to arrest leakages of energy from the chakras and to transmute negative energy to the “golden realm of reasoning.” The Ruby Crystal further acts to align the bodies—auric and physical—to the full light spectrum, encouraging the optimum state of health and being. It can also assist one in maintaining a connection with another person, with another area of the world, or with the Earth herself- allowing for the transmission of loving and gentle energy to the defined location. The Ruby Crystal has been used as a rod-like conductor for atmospheric electricity, providing a pathway, to the Earth and to the user, for electrical and magnetic forces. It further assists one in the conscious access of ethereal consciousness, providing a medium through which an understanding and an actualization of the healing process can be manifested.
