What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are words of power that have a healing effect on those who use them. Words truly do have the power to heal, and they can change your life. The Universal Church of Metaphysics invites you to explore the spiritual healing power of affirmations.

 

Dream Symbols

(Note: these are brief versions of lengthy descriptions in various books)

Above: consciousness, divinity

Aisle: pathway, walking down the aisle, spiritual bonding, vows, commitment, dedication or purpose

Alien: deceased being, feeling alienated, seeing another as strange and unpredictable

Alley:  related to life’s path, can be dark and tunnel-like, or a shortcut

Animal: religious or spiritual symbol, instincts, primal forces within, lower brain activity
Arch, Archway: rite of passage, new chapter in life, change in thinking, change for the better

Architectural structures: body parts, parts of the self, being inside = being inside the self

Arms: protection, embracing love, tools for mobilization and creation

Ash:  raw material of spiritual rebirth, phoenix rising from the ashes, triumph

At sea: not on solid ground, without understanding, unstable, free

Automobile: the ego, look for details like what the car looks like (self esteem), if it is lost, traveling fast, etc.

Axe:  as weapon, represents war and violence; liberating power of spiritual light, sky god powers

Awakening: recognition, revelation, illumination

Baby: achievement, body of work, creation, creative process

Background: past life, past experiences, childhood

Back seat: not in control, being driven, letting self relax and let life take over the work

Ball: sphere, world, self-concept, as point around which everything revolves

Barefoot: baring one’s soul, getting in touch with the earth, instinctual nature, freedom

Basement: the unconscious, parts of the self not yet examined, something spooky or ugly

Bathroom: relief, cleansing, self care

Beach: solitude, peace, inner movement across unknown areas in psyche

Bear:  resurrection, initiation into life’s passage, darkness before rebirth, raw power

Beast: animal instincts

Bee:  industriousness, being too busy and over-committed, individual submerged in the group

Behind: past

Below: the unconscious

Bench: permanence, inactivity, rest, peace, stagnation

Black dog: symbol of foreboding, omen of future unpleasant event, death

Blanket: security, comfort, protection

Blind: lack of vision, foresight or faith, unable to make a decision, fear

Blood:  emotions, the soul, vital life-force, matters of the heart, symbolic of sacrifice

Blue: truth, spirituality, sadness, peace

Boat: conveyance, rite of passage, method of moving across abyss within the self

Bog:   charting uncertain territory, putrefication that precedes rebirth

Book: self-discovery, absorbing inner information, unread pages of self

Bridges: connections to another world, to others, and to self, crossing into another way of being

Briefcase: a collection of ideas, secret or important information, status symbol

Bright lights: fame, exposure, not hiding unsavory parts of the self anymore, or showing the beautiful parts of self.

Broken window: self-destruction, emotional upheaval, inner turmoil

Bugs: little things bothering you, uncleanliness, fear of filth

Building: the self, creative impulses, constructive outlook

Bunk: unification, steadfastness

Bushes: subterfuge, concealment, submerged sexual urges, genitalia

Calling card: sense of identity, networking

Camel: beast of burden, responsibility

Camp: staying entrenched, an adventure, self-sufficiency

Candles: magic, optimism, illumination

Car: driving self, in control, inside a small or specific world, car can represent body, mobilization

Cartoon: unreal aspects of self, caricatures of self, the silly parts of self or the parts that don’t seem steady in reality

Cashier, check-out person: adding things up, taking stock of self, giving energy to stranger
Castle: the body, lofty, mature sense of self, fortress of self, manifestation of self

Caverns: dark parts of the psyche, female genitalia, void within

Ceiling: limiting factor

Chair: permanence, solidity, place of rest, interrogation

Chased: sense of being pursued, self chasing self, monster

Circle: concept of self, totality, wholeness, timelessness, continuance, mandala, coming full circle

Cities: symbolic of dreamer, beautiful cities-love of self and life, ugly cities- hate of self and life

College course: the course of life, learning, introspection

Columns: body, phallic symbol, standing tall, supportive, upholding ideals, order

Conductor: energizer, conduit, one who runs things or regulates things

Corners: the four points of reference in the world, totality, wholeness

Costume: disguise, deception, roles we assume

Coverings: layers of memory, layers of undiscovered self

Crib: safety zone, protection

Dancing: joy, happiness, creativity, sexual activity, celebration of life or self

Darkness: ambivalence, apathy, surrender, fear, devoid of knowledge

Datebook: passage of time, agenda, schedule, self-identity

Deep water: trouble, unknown parts of the self that are feared, spirituality

Demons: primitive instincts, repressed sexuality, concentrations of fear within self, ugly parts of the self

Descending: quest for self-knowledge, self-discovery, the unconscious

Devils: protagonists, tempters, seducers, negativity, hopelessness, falling out of favor

Diagnosis: ongoing analysis in dream

Digging: self-discovery, searching the unconscious, looking for something

Dinner: emotional nourishment or protection, satisfaction of needs

Dog: Dionysian animal spirit, instincts, making friends with yourself, friend

Dolls: babies

Door: entrance to illumination, imagination, opening up or closing off, forbidden

Driving wheel: wheel of life, symbol of control, responsibility

Drowning: suffocation by system, being engulfed or overwhelmed, loss of identity, immersing oneself in spirituality

Edge: looking into the unknown, borderline, hesitation to enter unknown

Egg:  beginnings, new project, phase of life, sense of self, the womb of Mother Goddess, hope

Envelope: deliverance, announcement, sealed off, enveloped

Excrement: death, decay, defilement

Explosions: sexual activity, ejaculation or orgasm, climax, falling apart of life or self in abrupt way, breakthroughs in consciousness

Extended objects: full growth potential

Falling: surrender to, loss of control, letting go, flying, end of the line

Fertile ground: womb, great idea, incubation of project

Film: distortion, veiled layer, projection of fantasy, identity issues, watching others

Fire: frenzied activity, intellect, sexual energy, desire, passion, excitement

Firearms: fear of death, control of life and death, anger

Floating: superficial, without depth, on top of a situation, above all human affairs, freedom

Flying: freedom, renunciation, independence, detachment, objectivity, defiance of rules, elevation, establishing individuality, ascendance

Foreground: present life, future life, what is in front of you

Frog: evil spirit or good spirit historically linked to superstition, something bewitched that was transformed for the worse

Front seat: co-navigation, privilege

Frozen: stubbornness, resistance, rigidity, reluctance, inhibitions, fears

Garage: cemetery, graveyard, underworld, unconscious, storage of information or things

Garden: cultivation of creative side, unrepressed nature, passion, spirit, origins

Glass: perception, clarity, transparency

Glass hall: perception of viewing or being viewed or watched over

God: the father, creator, eternal being within self, divinity, wisdom

Going outside: independence, beyond confines of self or life

Green: unripe, unseasoned, birth and fruition, healing energy, growth

Hair: strength, power, if cut=castration or weakness

Handbag: self-identity, security

Harsh light: harsh realization

Hives: anger, physical eruption

Holding back breath: not accepting a situation, fear, anticipation

Home, house: the body, personality, being, self, state of mind, the mother, security, refuge, the more palatial, the grander the sense of self

Ice: the opposite of an erection, something that becomes hard in the cold, without emotion, linked to death, stiffness

Incline: struggle, maturation process

Interiors: the mind, introspection

Invisibility: unborn, protection, forgetting or being forgotten

Island: isolation, independence, inaccessibility, autonomy, the individual self

Jesus: father, paternal figure, savior, the good, spiritual experience, forgiveness

Journey: departure, death, adventure

Jungle: the unconscious

Key: unlocking of higher truth, understanding, opening up

King: father, in control, boss, authority

Lake: reflection, giving surface view

Large audience: the eternal being, judgment, desire to be heard

Leaves: something fallen, dead, or something alive and green, healthful

Left: the past

Light: consciousness, awareness, clarity, of spiritual matter

Lighthouse: empowerment, scope, self-illumination, finding one’s path home

Little dog: helplessness, children, the underdog, compassion

Losing a pocketbook: loss of identity, sense of violation

Losing a tooth: a gap or void, fear, consequences for inability to make the right decision

Makeup: covering reality, covering up ugly parts of the self, making beautiful parts more visible

Magazine: the self, storehouse of information, gossip

Male hostility: fear of castration, negative animus, trying to take control of situation

Mask: disguise, persona

Medicine: corrective measures, guidance, problem solvers

Mermaid: magic, goddess figure, sexual attractiveness

Mirror: self-reflection, looking for truth, imitation

Mist: blurred reality, inability to make a decision, lostness

Moon: wholeness, luminous enlightenment, magic, feminine presence, purity, ascendancy

Mother: one who births, rescues, creates, nostalgia for the womb, nourishment
