Inducing lucid dreams naturally leads to the ability to astral project, or have out-of-body experiences (OBEs). This is often what is happening when one has a false awakening from a lucid dream. A false awakening happens when one 'wakes up' from the dream, but does not realize that he or she is not awake physically. A short time later, the subject does realize a dream is still in progress, but it may or may not be a dream, but instead might be an astral projection.
