What are Affirmations?

Affirmations are words of power that have a healing effect on those who use them. Words truly do have the power to heal, and they can change your life. The Universal Church of Metaphysics invites you to explore the spiritual healing power of affirmations.

Comparing Conventional and Vibrational Medicine

“The art of healing comes from nature and not from the physician. Therefore, the physician must start from nature with an open mind.”
—Paracelsus

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
—Thomas Edison

Vibrational medicine, for some, is a complementary choice to use along with more modern, conventional medicines. Others are recognizing the need for a revolution in our thinking about wellness as a culture. The rise of modern medicine is largely based on the Newtonian view of science and the body, and as we move further away from this view of reality in our cutting edge sciences, it is necessary to look at how we have come to view our bodies and our understandings of health, to see where the mistaken assumptions of the past have shaped how we take care of ourselves.

This is not to say modern medicine does not have its value. It undoubtedly has some applications, but we definitely need a little perspective. We need a wake-up call, to shake us from the complacency of allowing someone else to be responsible for our health. When we give someone else responsibility for our health, we give up our power, and we stop being who we are. We get further and further from our own truth. Richard Gerber, in A Practical Guide To Vibrational Medicine (2001), gives a comparison of conventional medicine and vibrational medicine, and how each views the world. I have included it here to emphasize these points.

CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE MODEL

VIBRATIONAL MEDICINE MODEL

One of the most important, and radical notions of holistic medicine, that is, medicine which addresses the whole person, body, mind, and spirit, is the idea of personal responsibility. If our thoughts directly affect our sensory perceptions, if our feelings color our experience, if our cells respond to the electrochemical and energetic messages we offer in each and every moment, how will we decide, with this understanding, to approach our health and well-being?

For many, this is a tough question. As a culture, we have become quite dependent on doctors, who have spent many years of their lives sacrificing to understand the body, to understand all the chemical interactions in the body, and to understand how the introduction of hundreds of different chemicals will affect the body’s functions. They have learned how to cut into the body and apply fantastical methods, using incredibly precise technologies, to seemingly work miracles. Who are we to question their knowledge, their expertise? Especially when, embarrassing as it is, we know so very little ourselves about the workings of our own bodies, our own extraordinary physical systems. When we are ill, or in pain, when we are feeling how very vulnerable we are, especially when we are in crisis and scared, afraid to suffer, afraid to die, it is very comforting to think that someone else has the answers. It is so much easier to let someone who is very wise, all-knowing in these things, take over, and heal us. In some ways, for many of us, it may take us back to when we were children, before we had to worry about so many responsibilities, someone bigger, more experienced, and wise in the ways of healing, could help us, hold us, comfort us, and make everything okay.

The problem with this scenario is that everything is not okay within this model. There are many problems associated with modern medicine. Yet the root of these problems lies in people giving up personal responsibility in favor of an elusive, but ever promised, sense of safety. So this is the issue that holistic medicine, of which vibrational medicine is a part, strives to address. How can we connect with our own personal power, how can we as humans come to remember the truth, that the body is naturally very efficient as it’s own healer. We have only to live in accordance with the natural laws, those of the physical world as well as the world of spirit, to realize vibrant health and well-being. We can remember our body’s brilliance, the miracle of life, and begin to thrive and co-create with Nature, with Gaia, with God. The miracle is within us. This is the difference between modern medicine and holistic health. The miracle is not in the technology, in the doctor’s education, or in a bottle of pills. It truly and unequivocally lies within, and is always present, has always been, and always will be. We are never without the miracle. We are the miracle. When we know ourselves, we know how to take care of ourselves. It comes naturally. We don’t need any other authority. Besides God, we are the only true authority when it comes to our own health. That is personal responsibility, that is personal power, and that is personal truth.

Vibrational medicine helps us understand who we are. All these modalities inevitably point us in the right direction; within. Through vibrational medicine we begin to ask questions, and eventually we find the right questions to ask. We find release from old painful patterns. We find positive, empowering ways of being in life. We face our demons, and we find out that our only undoing lies with the beliefs we carry that are not in line with our own truth. We find ways to forgive, to clear blocks in our energy systems, to open our chakras, to receive the sweet, steady, constant flow of lifeforce energy that has always been available to us, in every moment. The only ones who deny us this are ourselves. Maybe someone else taught us by example, maybe we have weak genetic inheritance, but these patterns can be addressed right here, right now, and we can heal our whole genetic lineage in an instant. We can do this, and vibrational medicine gives us the keys, and reminds us how to use them.
