“Homeopathy...cures
a larger percentage of cases than any other method of treatment and is beyond
doubt safer and more economical and a most complete medical science.”
—Mahatama Gandhi
“There have been two great revelations in my life: The first was bepop,
the second was homeopathy.”
—Dizzy Gillespie
Homeopathy is a healing system developed in the early 1800s, by Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who coined the term, which means “similar suffering.” Indigenous healers and shamans practiced this method of healing as well, so we know this natural wisdom practice is quite ancient, though Hahnemann did develop the modern form practiced today. It works on the principle that substances which cause certain symptoms when ingested physically can energetically treat illnesses with the same symptoms. For a remedy to work, it must fit the entire symptom profile. For example, onions cause the eyes to water and burn, and the nose to run. These very specific symptoms can be effectively treated by a homeopathic remedy made from onions. The remedies work on an energetic rather than physical level, by stimulating and strengthening the energetic bodies, in turn strengthening and healing the physical body. The motto of homeopathy is “like cures like,” and this very effective modality of vibrational medicine was one of the most widely used healing methods in this country for about 100 years, until allopathic medicine gained popularity in the early 1900s.
Homeopathic medicine addresses the whole person, and a homeopathic physician will often conduct a very thorough interview with a client before prescribing a remedy. Depending on the nature of the dis-ease, a remedy may address immediate or chronic symptoms. A constitutional remedy can be prescribed to strengthen and support the whole system of an individual, and emotional, mental, and physical symptoms can be addressed together. The practitioner develops a “picture” of the individual’s life expression, health, and vitality, and addresses these with the remedies prescribed.
Remedies are developed through a system called “potentization,” a dilution process facilitated through the forceful shaking or striking of a liquid extraction of the material, which captures the energy or frequency of the specific natural substance. Homeopaths consider that the more times the substance is diluted through potentization, the stronger the dose becomes. Through the potentization process, the pure vibrational frequency of the substance is accessed, and this works more directly on the energetic bodies, where dis-ease starts.
Because of the complexity of homeopathic treatment, with the exact matching of emotional, mental, and physical symptoms, it is somewhat more difficult to self-heal with homeopathics, though immediate symptoms can be addressed with over the counter homeopathic remedies which are known to treat common ailments. These will work especially well with childhood complaints, such as teething, earache, colic, and other simplistic symptom profiles. Children aren’t as bound up with the complex mental and emotional profiles as adults, and respond quite well to simple treatments. Adults tend to respond better when a constitutional remedy is given to address the complexity of their individual “picture.”
There are many good books on homeopathics for people who are interested in learning more and using this alternative to allopathic medicine for addressing the health of themselves and their families, including pets. Homeopathy has virtually no side-effects because a misdiagnosed remedy will have no affect on the system. When the right remedy is found, immediate shifts can occur. Constitutional remedies, when taken consistently, can support the energetic system to become balanced and whole, healthy and fluid, which will show up shortly in improved physical health and well-being. Homeopathic medicine has been well researched, and much documentation on its effectiveness is available. As a healing modality, it is very popular in Europe, as it has been since its modern inception. In fact, the royal family in England uses a homeopath as their primary physician!
