“We see the world, not the way it is, but the way we are.”
—Talmud
In Light Emerging (1993), Barbara Brennan develops the understanding of a holographic universe, of a holographic view of oneself, and of the healing process. She introduces the idea (based on research and theories developed by Stanford University brain physiologist, Dr. Karl Pribram in 1969) that what we perceive with our senses is our brain’s interpretation of energetic information. Our brains, in this view, are capable of focusing on energetic information, interpreting it, and projecting a holographic image for the eyes to perceive. It also creates scents out of information received by the nose, and sound out of energetic signals that the ears perceive. Brennan describes this process as Pribram theorized it:
“Pribram states that our brain acts like the hologram that projects the true reality of the energy beams into an illusory apple [or whatever we are focusing on]. Our brain, using our five senses, picks up the energy field of whatever we bring our attention to in the moment and translates that energy field into an object. What this means is that the object we perceive represents the secondary reality. It is but a signature of a deeper reality…from which the projection of the object comes.
“Pribram says that all our senses act together in a way to create the illusion of our world around us…so far, only the hologram using the visible sense—light from the laser beam—has been built. Probably, some day, holograms using the kinisthetic, auditory, olfactory, and gustatory senses will also be built.”
When we begin to think about the world in terms of this information, we tend to have a radical shift in our understanding. If everything is composed of vibrational frequencies, and our brains have the ability to interpret these frequencies to construct our experience, how does this affect how we will choose to approach our health?
