Distant Healing
(This is an excerpt from a University Of Metaphysical Sciences course at www.umsonline.org, please feel free to visit the school website)
At the second level students learn the ability to give Reiki over a distance. This allows the practitioner to heal someone who is very far away, anywhere in the world. This seems to be a successful type of healing that has worked for many people. Some people say that the Distant Healing Symbol is not even necessary to do distant healing, but generally it is used. It can bridge time and space.
This is the last symbol that a student will receive in the second level of Reiki, and it is called Hon Sha Ze She Nen or the “Distant Healing Symbol.” This symbol has many different versions and its meaning also has different versions. The name Hon means “root, source, true, or real;” Sha means “someone or person;” Ze means “right, proper, or this;” Sho means “justice, correct, righteous, or certainly;” and Nen means “mindfulness, wish, idea, feeling, attention, or thought.” These definitions were retrieved from the web site www.aetw.org. Also, some, like Kathie Lipinsik, say that all this means, “May the Buddha (or the Christ) in me reach out to the Buddha (or Christ) in you and promote enlightenment and peace.” This definition and others can be found online at www.reiki.org in the article section. Distance healing can be used to heal the past. This doesn’t mean changing the past, which is impossible, merely healing emotions about the past. Kathie Lipinski wrote an article on “The Distant Healing Symbol” and had it published by The International Center for Reiki Training which posted it online at www.reiki.org/reikinews/DistantSymbol.htm. In this article she describes how to heal the past. This is one you can try tracing with your finger, although it is difficult and will take some time to master.
