Meditations
(This is an excerpt from a University Of Metaphysical Sciences course at www.umsonline.org, please feel free to visit the school website)
Meditation is a major stepping stone to developing Ki. Before you can move your body and move Ki simultaneously, you should practice moving Ki while your body is still. Because there is Ki in the air that you breathe, a breathing method is a main part of Japanese meditative practices. In the fast pace world most of us live in, it is hard to find time to stop what we are doing and just breathe. That is why it is so important to do so. If you try to rush through the system of Reiki because you want to heal someone or yourself, you may be very disappointed at the lack of magic you may find in the art of Reiki. Cultivating Ki, meditating on Ki, and interweaving Ki in your everyday life is extremely important if you want to master the art of Reiki.
Relaxation is a major aspect to meditation. By relaxing you are healing yourself in many ways. Almost every part of your body is damaged slightly when you are stressed. By relaxing, you allow blood and oxygen to circulate better, your brain releases endorphins, and your muscles can heal faster. Also, when you are relaxed, the nutrients, enzymes, and hormones can function more adequately, while toxins are flushed from your body, which helps your immune system. Therefore, relaxation could heal your body alone.
