Breath Purification

(This is an excerpt from a University Of Metaphysical Sciences course at www.umsonline.org, please feel free to visit the school website)

Perform the breath purification three times. To do this: 1) with both hands, make vajra fists by pressing your thumbs to the base of your ring fingers. Press your fists into the socket where the legs join the pelvis, with the backs of the fists along the upper thighs to the knees. Turn fists over with the palm side down, and pull the fists back to the hips, up your sides to breast level and shoot your hands straight out in front. 2) Lower both hands to the knees. raise the left hand, and with the "lotus-turning" mudra, close the left nostril with the left forefinger. Breathe out through the right nostril. Imagine the expelled air is dark yellow and represents all anger leaving your body. 3) Repeat number 1, then lower both hands to the knees. Raise the right hand and with the "lotus turning" mudra, close the right nostril with right forefinger. Breathe out through the left nostril. Imagine the expelled air is dark red and represents all desire and attachment leaving your body. 4) Repeat number 1, then lower both hands to the knees. Breathe out through both nostrils, and slightly from the mouth. Imagine the expelled air is a dark, smoky color and represents all ignorance leaving your body.
