Uniting Heaven And Earth: Meditation

(This is an excerpt from a University Of Metaphysical Sciences course at www.umsonline.org, please feel free to visit the school website)

This meditation is about connecting the sensual world with the plan of spirit and using the image of fire to purify your chakras. (You can record this on a tape or use it without a partner as well.)

  1. Sit in a comfortable position, either cross-legged on the floor, or sitting in a chair with your feet on the ground and your back straight. Imagine that you are growing roots down into the ground, from the base of your spine. Imagine these are energetic roots, reaching deep into the earth.

  2. As you breathe in and out, imagine these roots expanding, growing, reaching, through the layers of earth and layers of rock, until you can start to sense the heat coming from the center of the earth. With each out breath, allow your roots to go deeper and deeper into the molten lava at the center of the earth. Feel the intense heat and imagine that through this heat you’re contacting the hot, fiery core of the earth, symbolizing your connection to the life force, to life, to the material source, and feel the energy this brings you. Your roots connecting you to this hot fiery core, symbolizes your connectedness to this source.

  3. As you continue to breathe, draw up this heat and redness, this source of life and energy. It is your own passion, your lust for life, and your desire to be alive in this body, on this planet here and now. Keep breathing and drawing this energy up through your roots, right into the soles of your feet. Feel the heat, or imagine it’s there, in the soles of your feet.

  4. Allow the warmth to permeate up your legs. Draw that red hot energy into your pelvis, allowing it to burn away anything that is not aligned with your love of life, with joy, with vibrancy. Breathe in, drawing that heat into your abdomen. Imagine it burning away any obstacles to your being fully in your passion, in your vitality.

  5. Then draw that energy into your lungs and chest, allowing your lungs to expand with the fullness of life, celebrating life. Breathe in, drawing that energy into the center of your chest, in the area of your heart. Feel your heart expand with your breath, and fill with passion for life and love. Allow the fire to burn in your heart, burning away any obstacles to love.

  6. Pull the energy into the crown area at the top of your head, Imagine that you are growing branches, energetic branches reaching up into the sky. Feel these energetic channels reaching into the cool white fire of the universe, the realm beyond mortal life, the realm of the infinite, and of spirit.

  7. Draw the cool white fire of the infinite down through the branches into the crown at the top of your head. Open up your crown area to allow the cool white fire of the universe to rain down on your head like sparks. Feel the sense of infinite possibilities for you, the sense of spaciousness, of expansion.

  8. Bring this sense of spaciousness into your chest. Let your heart be soothed by this sense of spaciousness, allow your heart to open up. Imagine the cool white fire of the heavens burning together with the hot red fire of earth in your heart mixing and mingling in the heat.

  9. See your heart as the center of convergence, whose roots connect with the earth and whose branches connect with heaven. You are a bridge between the two. Celebrate these two qualities: your connection with the earth, your body and the material world, and your connection with the world of spirit.

  10. As you breathe out, allow the energy of this red and white heat to expand, allowing a sense of love to fill you heart. Allow this feeling of love to flow out from your heart toward your partner, and from your partner to the whole world beyond. As you breathe out, imagine love flowing out of you, as you breathe. Imagine receiving love. Breathe in and out, receiving and giving love.
