In spoon breathing we combine touch with unison breathing. This is an especially intimate way to share some quiet moments together. Try beginning or ending a ceremony this way. First your partner lies down on her/his side with the knees pulled forward a little for balance. Then also on your side, snuggle in closely behind. Your lower arm can be pointing upward, perhaps with a pillow or a folded towel placed between the arm and the head. Your upper arm rests on you partner’s arm. It is important not to tense the muscles by holding your partner. Simply relax and let your bodies melt together. Once you become comfortable, tune into and follow your partner’s breathing, matching the inhalation and exhalation. The first method is to breathe as usual without any attempted alteration of pace of volume. The second method is to take slower and fuller breaths.
