Immanence

The belief in immanence of the divine in the Universe and on Earth is central to how witches interact with the divine. Starhawk is the current definitive voice on this subject, as she writes in The Spiral Dance (1979), “Immanence means that the Goddess, the Gods, are embodied, that we are each a manifestation of the living being of earth, that nature, culture, and life in all their diversity are sacred. Immanence calls us to live our spirituality here in the world, to take action to preserve the life on earth, to live with integrity and responsibility.” Further she writes “In Witchcraft, each of us must reveal our own truth. Deity is seen in our own forms, whether female or male…” Immanence now can be seen to be the uniting force underlying all of the tenants of The Craft.
